The International Centre for Migration Policy Development has organised a 2-day workshop to review technical assistance provided by the demand-driven facility support for movement of persons across West Africa.
Moyo Thomas reports that free movement within ECOWAS has been on for about 40 years, one of the longest in any sub region in the world.
The challenge remains harmonizing the benefits of these movements for member countries.
These and other gaps are what the demand driven facility action of the ICMPD, ECOWAS and IOM are set to address
The ECOWAS Representative also said though border closure negates the provisions of free movements of persons in the region, Nigeria is justified to close its border.
One of the achievements of the project is the strengthening of national migration data management systems in the region.
