The House of Representatives is to investigate the alleged refusal of the management of a private hospital in Lagos to provide immediate medical attention to a robbery victim, Moradeun Balogun, which led to her death.
National Assembly Correspondent Joke Adisa reports the resolve of the federal lawmakers to dig into the incident.
On the 2nd of December, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Moradeun Balogun, was robbed in the Gbagada area of Lagos state.
She was said to have been stabbed in the neck by her assailants after which she was rushed to a nearby hospital for first aid treatment.
Eye witnesses accused the said hospital of refusing to offer medical treatment its service and instead,referring the patient to a nearby General Hospital.
Not long after, Miss Balogun was said to have died.
The sad incident went viral on the social media with many people calling for the immediate prosecution of the hospital management.
The hospital has since debunked accusations of neglect levelled against it.
A statement from the hospital reads;
“The patient was attended to by two doctors whose assessment indicated she needed immediate attention of a vascular surgeon and was therefore referred to the closest hospital, Gbagada General Hospital.”.
The lawmakers do not seem convinced by the defence of the hospital and are now seeking a probe.

The motion generated a heated debate and emotions were raised among the legislators
The House directed the Inspector General of Police to also probe, arrest and prosecute all the perpetrators of the act in line with the relevant provisions of the Compulsory Treatment and Care Victims of Gunshot Act, 2017.
