The House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has suspended all legislative work on the 2020 Budget proposals for the agency.
The House frowned at the failure of the Commission to present its budget proposals for parliament’s approval with just a few days to the end of the
year.
Acting NDDC Managing Director gave a breakdown of the 346 point 51 billion naira proposed by the NDDC as 2019 budget, saying the budget was based on the assumption that there would be improved revenue inflow.
She told the lawmakers how the interim management uncovered many fake International Oil Companies in the course of its investigations. The legislators lamented alleged widespread infractions in the commission’s expenses in the outgoing year.
At the end of the meeting, the Committee directs the commission to defray its existing liabilities through the implementation of its 2019 budget. But it refuses to consider to the 2020 Appropriation Bill of the Commission due to what it calls unsubstantiated claims.
The Committee further directs the Commission to recover the more than one trillion naira being owed by various entities so as to be able to offset
its liabilities.
