An institute engaged in rehabilitating and assisting trafficked persons with empowerment programmes, has graduated more than 30 young women in order to discourage migration of Nigerian youths especially girls.
The graduates have been taught vocational skills on makeup and cosmetology that will empower them to get on with their lives even without white collar jobs.
The youth unemployment rate in Nigeria was estimated at more than 23 percent from 2014 to 2017. It reached an all time high of 38 percent in the second quarter of 2018. This is according to the national bureau of statistics.
Many Nigerian youths end up migrating to other countries in search of a better life but this usually ends up bad for many of them.
To discourage this move by youths, this agency has decided to engage 30 young women in developing skills that will help them live better lives.
Binta and Opeyemi are both graduating today and they believe the skills learnt will give them a better future
Young women were handpicked from two communities within the federal capital territory called Karimajiji and Kuchingoro communities., and leaders of the institute hope that this will create an impact towards ending their urge to migrate.
For many like Binta and Opeyemi all they want is a normal life with a job that will take care of their immediate needs while they remain in their
homeland.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Nigeria continues to experience high internal and external migration due to the
size of its population, economic climate, as well as its porous borders.
