Members of the house of representatives have rejected a six-year single term for the president and governors. They also declined consent to an attempt to increase their tenure and that of state legislators from four to six years.
The bill seeking to alter the 1999 constitution suffered a similar fate in the seventh national assembly.
Joke Adisa reports that sponsor of the bill, John Dyegh, proposed that instead of two tenures of 4 years each, the President and state governors be made to be in office for a single six year tenure.
