The Department of Petroleum Resources says there will be no scarcity of petroleum products this yuletide.
TVC news correspondent Uche Okoro attended a meeting with depot operators and petroleum marketers in Port Harcourt where the agency gave the assurance.
Every yuletide season comes with some apprehension. The fuel scarcity experienced in 2012 where travelers paid through their noses to return to base comes to mind.
The meeting was to look at 2019 – to celebrate achievements, identify challenges and chart a way forward.
As part of plans to end the year well, DPR said there is enough supply of fuel and other petroleum products to prevent scarcity.
The agency warned marketers against under dispensing, diversion of products and inflation of pump price.
As the regulator, DPR is pleased with the level of compliance to licensing of petroleum marketers in Rivers state.
This didn’t stop the agency from issuing a stern warning to defaulters.
The marketers promised to comply but want DPR to address challenges such as indiscriminate proliferation of petrol stations outside laid down regulations.
The meeting also resolved to tackle unethical activities in depots where products are released to unlicensed or nonexistent stations.
