Plenary at the Senate grounded to a halt on Wednesday after Senator Yele Omogunwa from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Before his move, Omogunwa was the only PDP senator from Ondo state.
Speaking after the announcement, senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio demanded that Omogunwa’s seat be declared vacant since he had switched parties.
But Senate President, Bukola Saraki declined, and ruled Akpabio out of order.
This caused the senate to erupt in a rowdy session after which members of the PDP staged a walk out.
