Airstrikes conducted by the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE as part of the ongoing Operation RATTLE SNAKE 2 have led to the neutralization of some fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).
It has also resulted in the destruction of portions of the tactical headquarters of the militants at Kollaram on the fringes of the Lake Chad in Borno State.
Airforce spokesperson Air Commodore, Ibikunle Daramola, said the operation was executed in 2 waves of attacks carried out on the 4th and 5th of January 2020, following Intelligence reports, Surveillance and Reconnaissance activities.
These led to the identification of compounds within the settlement where the terrorists’ leaders were housed.
Fighter aircraft had attack the identified hideouts in different parts of the settlement, destroying the structures and killing several terrorists.
And the Army has reiterated its commitment to the fight against insurgency in the north east.
It also denied rumours that some troops have allegedly threatened to abandon their duty post over their neglect by military authorities.
The troops were also alleged to have written a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, the National Assembly, and several other organizations over their long stay in the theatre.
The Army said Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province are behind the publications.
Operations Media Coordinator of the Army Colonel Aminu Iliyasu said the troops are more committed to wiping out all remnants of the insurgents and apprehending their collaborators.
