The re-election bid of the Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun has received a major boost as the 52-member ijebu traditional council under the leadership of Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona has endorsed him for the second term in office.
Speaking at a meeting at the palace of the Paramount ruler in Ijebu-ode, the traditional rulers say the endorsement become imperative based on his giant strides in the state.

According to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, the monarchs expressed their support in a communique read by the Council’s Secretary, Obiri of Ayepe-Ijebu, Oba Rosiji Ogunbanjo, at the end of their monthly meeting presided over by the Council’s President, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikirulai Kayode Adetona.
Reading from the statement, Oba Ogunbanjo stated that after evaluating events in Ijebuland and Ogun State under Governor Abiodun’s leadership, the Council overwhelmingly approved him to continue in office beyond 2023.
They commended him for his efforts in attracting foreign direct investment and for boosting the state’s internally generated revenue.
The traditional rulers also praised the governor for demonstrating inclusive government, which has significantly reduced political tensions in the state, and for carrying out projects equitably across the state’s divisions.
They listed projects such as the ljebu-Ode-Epe dual carriage way; the Agro-Cargo Airport located in Iperu-Remo; the reconstruction of Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway; Kobape Housing Estate; the Ray-Power Road; llaro-Owode Road; Imasayi – Ayetoro Road among infrastructural projects carried by Abiodun-led administration.
“The Ijebu Traditional Council noted the governor’s pledge on the development of the deep seaport in Ogun Waterside Local Government and we encourage him to see to the actualisation of the project;
“The governor has attracted an unprecedented inflow of direct foreign investments to the state and making the state the preferred investment destination.”
“The governor has increased the Internally Generated Revenue for
the state to a record level that has made the state number three in Nigeria according to BudgIT Report 2021.
