Governor of Taraba state, Darius Ishaku has signed the 2020 appropriation bill of two hundred and fifteen billion, eight hundred and twenty-three million, five hundred and seventy-six thousand and eight hundred and ten naira into law.
Governor Ishaku insists serving the people is the cardinal point of his administration.
The figure represents an increase of two billion, one hundred and ninety-one million, five hundred thousand naira (N2,191,500,000:00) from the initial sum of two hundred and thirteen billion, six hundred and thirty-two million, seventy-six thousand, eight hundred and ten naira (N213,632,076,810:00) presented to the Taraba state House of Assembly on December 19, 2019.
Governor Ishaku is determined to achieve accelerated growth and development through the 2020 appropriation bill.
The increase, the lawmakers explained, came from to the 2.5% increase in VAT collection which took effect from January 2020.
The break down of the budget is as follows;
Personnel emoluments and overhead cost is seventy-two point three hundred and three million naira. (72.33 billion), which is 33.80% of the total budget.
Approved capital estimates are put at one hundred and forty-three billion point four eight million naira(143.48 million) amounting to 66.19% of the
budget.
While presenting the budget to the governor, Speaker of the Taraba state house of assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini (PhD), said that the Christmas and New Year celebrations did not deter the lawmakers from carrying out their responsibilities as they painstakingly scrutinised the proposed budget and approved same for the governor to kick start the accelerated development of the state.
