The federal Ministry of health has put in place support systems for emergency response after the declaration of Coronavirus as a global health emergency.This was made known at the inter ministerial and multi sectoral meeting for preparedness and response.
According to world health organization, there had been 98 cases across 18 other countries but no deaths. But at least 213 people in china have died from the virus and almost 10,000 more cases nationally. The Nigerian government has advised citizens to suspend travel plans to china.
The corona virus inter-ministerial multi-sectoral preparedness and response meeting is expected to discuss strategies and action plans against the
importation of the novela coronavirus into Nigeria.
The joint response is to ensure effective containment of the virus in the event of its entrance in to the country. The meeting reviewed national strategies and plans as well as assign roles and responsibilities for all concerned agencies and state governments.
The likelihood of the fast spreading virus especially to communities where the overwhelmed health care facility is a cause for worry for the
government.
