President Trump has fired two of the most prominent witnesses who delivered damaging testimony against him during his impeachment hearings.
Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, national security aide and Gordon Sondland, Ambassador to the European Union were fired from their jobs within hours of each other on Friday, moves that amounted to retribution against those he held responsible for his attempted removal.
House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi said in a statement that Vindman’s ouster was “a clear and brazen act of retaliation that showcases the President’s fear of the truth. The President’s vindictiveness is precisely what led Republican Senators to be accomplices to his cover-up.”
Both officials provided critical information about Trump during public hearings, with Sondland saying the president sought a “quid pro quo” with Ukraine’s leader and Vindman criticizing Trump’s conduct during a July 25th phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as “improper.”
