A man was killed at New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday, after being run over by a parade float.
The accident is the second death to happen during this year’s festival.
Police think the man was killed after reaching for a beaded necklace that was being handed out from a float that was connected to others in tandem, when he was struck and dragged underneath it.
The float, with its gaudy lights still twinkling, was cordoned off by police on horseback and on foot. All around, streets were strewn with tossed bead necklaces and trinkets thrown from the floats, along with other party debris. A sombre mood had taken hold of members of the parade group, state Media reported
On Wednesday, a 58-year old woman was also run over and killed by a tandem float during a different parade.
