Five persons, victims of human trafficking have been rescued in Sokoto by men of the Nigeria, Security and Civil Defence NSCDC in Sokoto.
Narrating how the victims were rescued to journalists in Sokoto, Commandant of NSCDC in Sokoto Mohammed Saleh Dada says the victims arrive Sokoto central motor park from Lagos on their way to Illela with the intention of cross the border to Niger Republic before their personnel intercepted them.
He says preliminary investigation revealed that they all came from. Lagos heading to outside the country through the porous land border
He said a cleric from Lagos who is a member of the trafficking syndicate was responsible for the act and their partners in Sokoto at yet to be apprehended.
The. Commandant says the victims will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP in Sokoto.
The nations’ security agencies have been on the hunt for human traffickers since the constant stream of illegally trafficked Nigerians from Libya and several parts of the World became a deluge.
Several Initiative have been launched including in Edo State which has accounted for the vast majority of repatriated Nigerians accused of prostitution in the European Union especially from Italy.
The initiative which was launched by the former First Lady of Edo State Eki Igbinedion was designed to rehabilitate illegally trafficked girls who have been victims of human trafficking rings and give them a better life.
This was also behind the decision to establish the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, under the pioneer leadership of Caroline Ndaguba.
Other States of the Federation have also started several initiatives to ensure the reduction or outright stoppage of Illegal migration especially from the hinterland.
The Nigerians In Diaspora Organisation under the leadership of former House of Reps Member, Abike Dabiri, has also been in the forefront of addressing issues of illegal migration and human trafficking.
