The North East Development Commission has revealed its plans to support victims of the deadly Boko Haram attack in the ancient Garkida town of Gombi local government area of Adamawa state.
This will involve assessing the level of damage and partnering in the rebuilding and resettling efforts by
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
Governor Fintiri who sought for the support of the NorthEast Development Commission, after an assesment visit to the scene of the carnage, wondered why the attackers would strike a community without a history of violent extremism, destroy critical infrastructure, and also cut off people’s livelihood.
The Managing Director of the commission, Mohammed Buni Alkali whose job it is to coordinate the reconstruction, resettlement and rehabilitation of devastated communities in the northeast, commended the governo for it’s prompt response in meeting the dire needs of the affected communities.
He said the commission will prioritise its response plan to include the immediate, short term and long term needs of the affected communities.
The attackers destroyed parts of the first hospital in the north, two ambulances, key health infrastructure and also destroyed the house of the board chairman of the northeast development commission.
