Verification of signatures and counting of votes are still ongoing in some States and counties in the US midterm election
But early indications show that while gaining the majority in the Senate is still 50/50 between Republicans and Democrats, the Republicans may hold majority of the seats in the House of Representatives
This redefines many factors from leadership of the House to the policy agenda of President Joe Biden
The 2022 Mid term election is one of the fiercest the US has experienced recently
This is because the election would determine many things including the chances of the incumbent in the 2024 General polls and the success of his policies in the remaining 2 years of his tenure
Political experts see some salient factors playing a prominent role in the chances of Democats holding down a majority in the Congress
These include: the economy, the high rate of inflation, price hikes, high taxes, crime rate, gun control, decisions on abortion laws
Out of all the 435 House of representatives seats, Democrats has so far won 178 while the Republicans have won 198 leaving 59 seats in contention
For a party to be in control of the house of representatives, it must win 218 of the 435 seats
If the Republicans win the majority in the House of Representatives, the Speaker of the House will change and this may have a great impact on the agenda of President Biden as the opposition is not in support of many of his policies
The participation of former President Donald Trump in the Republicans campaign, point to his interest in contesting again in 2024 and a win could improve the chances of his winning
The midterm election also included governorship elections in 36 states and some secretaries
