Former national Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Diran Odeyemi, has described as unfortunate the current crisis plaguing the party as unfortunate.
Mr Odeyemi who declared his allegiance to the Wike camp said it will be like starting an election in deficit if the party goes into the 2023 elections with a divide house.
He said the G-5 governors are a major part of the party that must not be left to drift away.
He added that all avenues must be explored to ensure that the party goes into the election as a United house to stand a good chance of winning.
He sad the call on Former President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene and help bring the warring factions together is a welcome development.
He also called on former President Olusegun Obasanjo to help in bringing the crisis to an end.
He urged Other elders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to intervene and help the party go into the election as a united force.
“I want to say categorically that it is quite unfortunate that we find ourselves in this situation and as a matter of fact, it is not wise to go into 2023 election with the deficit results.
When I say deficit results, a situation whereby you are losing five governors shows an indicator that we are losing votes. And if politics or winning an election is a game of numbers, they just must do everything humanly possible as a political party to make sure that everybody is on board so that we can have a united house to go into this election.
So go to Suswam Calling on the former president to intervene and make sure that the party becomes one is a welcome development. And it’s not only the former president, Jonathan, that should be involved in this.
Even though we don’t know the position of former President Obasanjo, I think as somebody that has benefited from the party in the past, you should also join the former president and ensure that they immunize whatever is the crisis in PDP because going into the election as a divided team will not speak well and will not guarantee anything.
There are times that people, when you call them or challenge them to take off certain position, it is that good that ginger them off to do the right thing. So if there has been silence from the side of the former president now that we called him out, this is the time to know exactly where he is.
Because in my own language, when there are crises in a place, it means the elders there are sleeping. So if they are sleeping, that call is a wake up call. Please wake up. There’s crisis in PDP and as a former president that has benefited from this umbrella, please come and come to the rescue.
So it’s a good call that is expected of the leadership of the party to take up at this time.
Yes, I agree with what the federal government stands for. I agree with them not only because I come from the south or simply because I believe in equity and justice, but at the same time in a political party where we have diverse opinion and diverse culture.
Especially when people make a promise. Like the chairman said when he was being elected as the chairman of the party, when he promised to resign. If a Northerner emerges as the party’s Presidential Candidate, we expect that to happen.
But the crossroad that we find ourselves now is we believe there is no sacrifice. There is too much for the chairman to make for the success of this party. But if he remains adamant, we believe that for a while, a long time in politics will continue to talk among ourselves, just like the call being made by Suswam now to the former president.
There are other avenues for us to meet and continue to talk. 24 hours is a long time in politics and you never can know. We can still see shift in positions and we can see me. At a good point. We can reach an amicable resolution.
So I belong to the Wike camp and I believe in justice, fairness and equity. But at the same time I’m a party man”.
