The Wednesday Local Government Council election conducted by the Abia state Independent Electoral Commission ABSIEC was largely marred by irregularities.
The election which witnessed large voters apathy owing to the non restriction of movement also witnessed late arrival and in some other cases non availability of voting materials, also reportedly recorded pockets of ballot box snatching.
When TVC visited most polling units in Umuahia the state capital at about 4pm voters were seen waiting for materials and ABSIEC officials to arrive.
According to some of the people who spoke, they called on ABSIEC to reschedule the election in the affected areas so as not to disenfranchise the people.
Meanwhile, Governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu has called for the introduction of electronic voting system by INEC in future election.
The Governor made the call immediately after casting his vote alongside his wife. He said that the system will eneble voters to cast their votes and still go about their normal businesses instead of the hassles of trying to restrict the movement of people throughout the voting periods.
