The political atmosphere in Kwara state is getting charged ahead of the 2023 election. Reminiscent of the O’toge campaign, a pro democracy group in the state, Kwara rebuilders has warned former Senate president, Bukola Saraki against flamboyant disrespectful and insulting conduct.
In a statement issued by its publicity secretary, Abdullahi Abdul-Gani, the group said Saraki and his team conducted themselves in an unrefined and degrading manner when they threw bundles of naira notes from the former governor’s car for people to scamper for while security details whipped defenseless citizens at the Ilorin central Mosque.

The group warned against the repeat of such antidemocratic and uncivilized behaviour in the state.
The people of Kwara state are a dignified people of long history dating back to centuries and they are cultured, this is according to Executive Director, Journalist for Democratic Rights, Adewale Adeoye on Journlists’ Hangout.
He said ” since 1960, there has been a sham grip to redefine the sociology of the people in Kwara, and the Saraki dynasty played a very significant role in this aspect. There is this concept of thinking that cosmetics gains, which is momentary, which is the forces solution that your destiny is the answer of few people as against institutional provisions of what sustainable.
“The PDP are making a conscious effort to come back and that is why they are resorting to this.
“I’ve not seen this kind of thing for the past three years unless now that election is coming again.
He stated that throwing money about lessens the humanity of the individuals who are scrambling for that money. It is also a minus for the actor who believes that portraying them as starving humans, as animals scrambling from rubbish, is the finest way to help them and capture their hearts. This is not a good thing.
“I hope that the people will reject this kind of label on Kwara which is something that is an embarrassment to many of us who are conscious of the history and who are interested to see a kind of paradigm shift in the way things happen in that place.
He noted that there has been some changes in terms of what the current government is doing.
“If you look at provision of water services, provision of hospitals, Kwara state now has the biggest intensive care unit in the whole of North Central.
“They managed to assess 7 billion naira from the UBEC fund which had been locked since 2014. They are also touching almost all the 600 schools, secondary and primary schools. They are also raising the IGR.
“It is my hope that the government will be able to sustain that momentum because there is also a challenge with the current governor in terms of addressing internal party divisions, but in terms of performance, meeting the needs of people, health services, water, and roads, he has brought about a fundamental change in the way things used to be.”
