An initiative has been launched which will aid in providing holistic diabetic care and facilitating insulin access to about twelve thousand vulnerable patient groups in Nigeria.
The ‘ICARE’ initiative launched by the federal government and global partners is expected to support the nation’s diabetes control efforts.

Nigeria accounts for more than eleven million people currently living with diabetes, with experts advising citizens to practice preventive measures in order to reduce its prevalence rate
The non communicable disease is a common cause of sudden death, amputations, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and heart attacks in the country.
As diabetes continues to ravage the lives of millions of citizens and others across the globe, there are still barriers in getting access to care for patients living with this condition
The ‘ICARE’ initiative is expected to help lessen the burden of some of these barriers for patients through improving the lives of people
It is targeted especially at those in low income vulnerable conditions with limited income and health coverage, living with diabetes including reaching one hundred thousand children with diabetes treatment by the year 2030.
Experts believe that there is an urgent need to move access to diabetic care from sick care to health care surrounding a prevention and treatment approach for every adult and child living with diabetes.
