The Raw Materials Research and Development Council said it is strengthening partnerships with academic institutions on agro commodities and minerals development to intensify efforts at non-oil sector growth for enhanced revenue generation.
This is because Agro based industries are critical to economic growth and advancement.
Nigeria’s limitless cash crop production could not only allow the country feed adequately feed itself, if harnessed but would also help in employment generation, foreign exchange earning and providing raw materials in the agro allied industry.
The Raw Materials Research and Development authorities are now deepening ways of exploring production of agro based commodities alongside minerals like granite and gypsum , as well as elements like Copper.
The university community is willing to make these innovations a reality. It is also ready to collaborate with the agency in the development of value chains for Cashew, Sugar beets and Shea butter, which the Niger State Government has donated about fifty hectares of land for.
The council seeks the support of science based tertiary institutions on value addition to natural resources for industrial use to curb importation.
