The Senate has denied allegations levelled against its members that they received varying sums of money as Covid-19 palliatives from the Niger Delta Development Commission.
A press statement signed by the spokesman Ajibola Bashiru, said no senator received the 20 million naira as alleged by the Executive Director Projects of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Cairo Ojougboh.
But the top NDDC official insisted money was given to legislators as palliatives for the COVID-19 pandemic, He said Senators got 20 million naira each and house of reps members got 15 million naira each.
The Senate challenged Dr. Ojougboh to publicly provide evidence of his claim and list the names of the Senators he allegedly gave the alleged sum.
The Senate also demanded that an immediate retraction and apology be tendered to lawmakers if the Executive Director fails to prove the allegations and list the Senators involved.
