The Criminal Investigation Department of the police force in Lagos has discovered a factory engaging underage boys from Benue in forced labour.
In a sting operation, the force in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation found out that the boys numbering 19 were lured by an agent in Benue to Lagos to earn money at the plantain chips factory in the Ibeju-lekki area of Lagos.
The owners of the food factory and the boys have been called in for questioning as investigations begin.
But owner of the factory has distanced herself from the alleged reports of forced labour.
She said she has no knowledge that the boys were being maltreated and that their employment was done through the yet to be arrested agent.
