Anambra and Abia States on Tuesday recorded 160 and 135 new cases of COVID-19.
Also, Rivers and Enugu States had 134 and 81 new cases which indicate a spike in the numbers of persons getting infected with the virus in the south-eastern region.
Reports say the return of college students to their various institutions of learning may have contributed to the spike of infections in these states.
The new figures reported in 24 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday took the total number of confirmed cases to 133,552.
Discharged persons also increased by 1,276 as recoveries hit 107,551.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said six persons died on Tuesday and a total of 1,613 have died in over 11 months.
The Federal government has intensified its measures to ensure that Nigerians adhered to the Executive Order of wearing a face mask in public places or face the brunt of the law.
