The Lingering crisis rocking the peoples Democratic party is taking a toll on the party, as key leaders of the party in Lagos state on Saturday crossed over to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The defectors were led by a former senior special assistant to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Bode Oyedele.
The People’s Democratic Party has been battling internal crisis since losing the 2015 presidential election.
The wranglings has seen members and key leaders exiting the party to join the All progressives congress.
But despite the stronghold of the APC in Lagos since 1999, the PDP has maintained a consistency that has marked it as the party to beat in the Lekki eti osa axis and other parts in the Lagos east senatorial district.
And in this new wave of defections, Bode Oyedele once the chairman of the Lagos chapter of the Subsidy Reinvestment and empowerment programme under the last administration led all executives of the PDP in the senatorial district to join the APC.
They were received by members of the state executive of the party and prominent leaders led by the chairman lag of the party In Lagos.
Other prominent PDP stalwarts like Yaya Adeniyi Dosumu and Tony Akala Bakare also dumped the PDP to APC. The move was certainly a big relief to key leaders of the party as the senator representing Lagos east senatorial district described the party as a party to beat.
Chief Oyedele who led the members move to join the APC gave the reason for this high-profile defection.
The chairman of the All progressives congress in Lagos state however agreed that there was need for a vibrant opposition, that will put the APC government in check at all levels.
The political intrigues that have marked recent defections are pointers to warnings by political watchers that if the protracted leadership crisis rocking the PDP remains unsolved, the nation might be drifting towards a one party state.
