River state governor Nyesom Wike says Churches in Nigeria need to be vigilant and not allow itself to be used by desperate politicians who desire power at all cost in the 2023 elections.
The governor stated this at the Saint Paul’s Cathedral in Port Harcourt during the Rivers Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dedication Service for 2023 Election Campaigns.

Governor Wike speaking in a popular Nigerian lingual told the church in Nigeria to ‘shine its eyes’ and not be dragged into unnecessary political intrigues.
He said “it is wrong for presidency to remain one Zone. Most of you don’t ask yourselves questions, you just sit there. Somebody cannot continue to sell the same cheap ideas to you.
“Some of you sit and allow them to tell you all kinds of stories. If we want to do the right thing, let us do the right thing”
“We have to be careful so that the church is not destroyed,” the governor said.
With about two months to the 2023 presidential election on February 25, politicians have been seen at major programmes of mega churches, tacitly seeking support of their large congregations.
Wike’s presidential ambitions were dashed in May when he lost the PDP primary to Atiku. Atiku, a former Vice President, later stung Wike when he chose Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate over his closest challenger in the primary.
