The Nigerian Law Enforcement Agency, the EFCC was set up by law not only to investigate, but also to punish criminals and wrongdoers.
The EFCC boss, AbdulRasheed Bawa says the agency has so far recovered 30 billion naira from suspended accountant General of the Federation Ahmed Idris.
According to the EFCC boss, the agency is not a tool in the hands of some influential individuals, as far as this is concerned, the EFCC is independent enough to investigate the suspended Attorney General over the 109,000,000,000 naira fraud case.

Mr Bawa also hinted that the 7.1 billion naira fraud case against former Abia governor and now News Chief Whip of the Senate Orji Uzor Kalu is still on.
Reacting to the announcement by the EFCC boss on Journalists’ Hangout, Managing Editor, TheSettimes, Paul Dada stated that much as this was good news coming from the agency, it is also worrisome that there is too much of easy money within the system.
People can freely just siphon funds by reason of the office they hold.
Mr Dada noted that the EFCC boss should not micromanage the situation even though it reports to the Minister of Justice.
He noted that the Mr Bawa is there to do his job hence should not be at the mercy of the whims and capricious of the AGF.
He added that it is not enough to say they’ve recovered the money but how tight have the EFCC been able to prepare its case in court.
Speaking further, Publisher, Metro Star, Mr Emeka Madunagu said It is hope that the EFCC is not trying to run itself into double jeopardy in trying to subject Orji Uzor Kalu to double jeopardy since the prosecution didn’t go according to the court, it was struck out due to one or two defects.
According to him, Corruption remains the biggest threat in Nigeria.
“The way people easily have access to public is worrisome.
“These monies belong to the people and so it cannot be said to be free because it ought to go to projects.
He added that something drastic has to be done to curb these situations.
“We must get to the roots of all of this, we must do something drastic about it, because the nation is sinking.
“Every year we have budgets, the federal government, state government, local government, present budgets, but the implementation of this budget doesn’t go beyond 30% at the best.
“The remaining 70% is money belonging to Nigeria.
Mr Madunagu said the money that should be used to buy weapons, equip the police, military, civil defense and all is in the pockets of people.
According to him, the system is rigged in such a way that we can have successive accountants, general stealing billions of naira.
He added that Nigeria needs to get to the point where we have special courts were stealing should be punishable by death sentence or life imprisonment.
