The Abuja-Kaduna Passenger Train Attack happened because the attackers identified lapses in the Security of the Rail Line.
A security and Counter Terrorism Expert , Retired Group Captain Sadeeq Sheu, disclosed this while speaking to Nifemi Oguntoye on This Morning on TVC News on Monday Morning.
He added that Nigeria must do more than is currently doing in terms of Securing critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
According to him before putting in place any Infrastructure Security Risk Assessment Should be a part of the consideration.
He disclosed that the system currently in operation in Nigeria is seeing Security as an add on and not a part of the building process for such infrastructure.
He called for a revamp of how Security and safety is seen in Nigeria especially in building public Infrastructure and Buildings.
Going Further, He added that all Public Buildings and Infrastructure should be planned with Security and Safety in mind from the onset and not now adding Security features after the fact.
He said the Abuja-Kaduna passenger Train Attack was an opportunity which the Bandits took advantage of.
He called for the deployment of technology in the management of Security in Nigeria while also advocating that the Government must stand up and be resilient in reacting to challenges to the Security of the nation.
He said the failure to resume operations along the rail tracks after the attack quickly gave the Terrorists/Bandits the much needed exposure and publicity which shows that the nation was held to ransom by their action.
The abandonment of the Abuja-Kaduna Highway was also a major drawback for the government.
He expressed surprise that even members of the Armed Forces stopped using the road because of bandits activities.
On the measures put in place by the Railways authorities to secure the train and ensure passenger safety, Mr Sheu admitted that its a good development the profiling of Passengers boarding the train but said implementation will be key.
