US Actress, Amber Heard has settled her defamation case with ex-husband, Johnny Depp by agreeing to pay the sum of $1 million to him.
Recall that Depp had sued Heard for defamation, accusing her of “name-calling” that often escalated into physical violence.
In 2018, Heard had written a domestic violence piece in The Washington Post and although Heard didn’t name the actor, Depp’s lawyers said her allegations implied he was abusive and made it difficult for him to land acting roles.
Depp’s suit against the actress, however, went to a trial on April 11 and ended on June 1 with Depp coming out victorious.
In July, the actress filed an appeal to the defamation case, asking the court to dismiss or re-try the case.
However, in an Instagram post on Monday, Heard announced the settlement, adding that it is “not an act of concession” but due to the fact that she had “lost faith in the American legal system”.
