The last four months have been relatively calm in areas where terrorists and bandits have been notorious for carrying out operations.
The Niger state government attributes this to the operations of both conventional and non conventional security agencies working in the state.
But the harvest season is usually marked by bandit attacks on farmers living in volatile areas.
In the last couple of weeks, there have been pockets of attacks in Mashegu, Mariga, and Kontagora local government councils.
But the state commissioner for internal security and humanitarian affairs Emmanuel Umar assures that all efforts are being made to completely flush bandits out of the state .
He said “Few days, we also recorded some intrusion in another settlement, just in Mashegu LG. On Thursday, there was another invasion on Mawuu in Mashegu LG where about four citizens were abducted including the village head.
Mr Umar also sympathised with the families of security personnel that paid the supreme price, those who got injured, and those that lost their sources of livelihood in the fight against banditry.
He further acknowledges the support of Community leaders and other members of the society who have collaborated with security agents by providing useful information.
As the Christmas celebration sets in, the Commissioner assures Nigerlites of peaceful celebrations as there will be increased security visibility and patrols across the state.
