The Vice Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Kashim Shettima says an eventual support of the G-5 governors for the party’s presidential ticket will serve as a game changer
Senator Shettima who made the statement shortly after a rally in Lafia, was reacting to media report of a meeting between the integrity governors and the APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Senator Shettima described Wike as a heavy weight politician and optimistic of a collaboration between the APC and the G-5 governors.
Wike is a force of nature. We believe that what binds us together as a nation supersedes whatever that divides us. Politics should be a source for national unity, not a cause for conflict.
If the support of G-5 governors materialises, which I believe and hope that it will, it will be a game changer, we believe that the country is going to be better off, and more certainly.
“We are not strange bed followers at all, We are contemporaries, we are friends and will have cause to unite for the good of the nation.
“It’s a welcome development if it materialises, and we believe it will.
Lawyer and political analyst, Bolanle Olugbani speaking on the development said it adds to the tally, to the majority support for whichever candidate that these G-5 governors go in support of at the present point in time, even though the final decision appears to be under wraps and will be made available very soon.
He noted that it simply points to the fact that whosoever that the G-5 governors give their support to will eventually be added to the majority vote of that candidate.
“The way it is right now, support will not go to a Northern candidate, It will not go to Rabbiu Kwankwaso or Atiku Abubakar because one of their grouse is the fact that it believes that the next candidate or the next president of Nigeria should come from the South, with that the support will go to candidates from the South.
Speaking on what would happen if the PDP sanctioned the integrity governors, G-5, Mr Olugbani stated that the PDP would have to decide whether the open rebellion of not supporting its official candidates and instead supporting another candidate from another party, whether they want to take on the G-5 governors in the respective state.
“By that, will the PDP leadership decide to dismiss these governors and take over the party structures in these five states, collapsing those structures into a structure that will back their candidates? Or, if those structures are loyal with the G-5 governors of the PDP, and they expel or suspend the party’s governors, beware.
As a result, if the governors have complete control, they would likely take the party structure in the direction in which they are going leaving the PDP, virtually with no direction in the five states except if the PDP moves fast.
