Members of the Social Democratic Party in Adamawa state have taken to the streets in Michika Local Government area to protest the state Independent Electoral Commission’s failure to declare the party’s candidate winner of the just concluded polls.
Vandi Favanza of the All Progressives Congress was declared winner of the election.
The protesters insisted that SDP candidate Vandi Zira, conveniently won the council election before its outcome was allegedly upturned.
These are card carrying members of the Social Democratic Party in Michika local government area of Adamawa state.
They are protesting the council election results announced in Yola, the state capital in favour of APC by ADSEIC authority.
But some of them admitted to our correspondent that heavy presence of security agents at the election venues made it rancour free.
The commissioner of police in the state Oyekunle Adegboyega assured residents of Michika that the command would not tolerate any breach of the peace in Michika.
He urged the protesting SDP members to direct their grievances to the right channel.
The commissioner narrated how security agents were able to avert a bloody council polls in Michika.
He explained that he invited various parties and stakeholders for a peace talks.
The state Chairman of the independent electoral commission refused to comment on the outcome of the election when contacted.
The All Progressives Congress candidate who won the election and the winning Councillors have been administered the oath of office at Government House Yola.
The elected Michika Council chairman and his Councillors have relocated to Yola the state capital amidst the rising tension.
