Officials of the Adamawa state command of the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS) are scrambling to trace the origin of the letter with which former Governor, James Bala Ngilari was granted bail on Monday.
The letter which supposedly confirmed Ngilari’s bad health was the major one presented to a Yola High Court upon which he was granted a hundred million naira bail.
But Controller of the Prison Service, Peter Tenkwa is upset about the development.
He says he knows nothing about the letter and has been mandated by the Controller General of the NPS, Ja’afaru Ahmed to query everyone involved in the matter.
On March 6, Ngilari was sentenced to five years in prison, without an option of fine, for violating the public procurement act in the award of contract for the procurement of 25 vehicles.
He had spent barely a month in prison before he was granted bail on Monday.
