The management of University of Lagos has exonerated Television Continental, TVC, from reports linking it to the prosecution of some students.
The students are standing trial for allegedly invading TVC’s office, but as our Education Correspondent, Sharon Ijasan reports, they came in peacefully and left in like manner.
Recall that there has been an unfounded allegation on social media that TVC ordered the arrest and prosecution of the thirteen rusticated students of the institution.
But speaking in an interview with TVC on Saturday, the Deputy Registrar of the University of Lagos, Toyin Adebule, who also doubles as head of UNILAG’s Information Unit, said TVC has nothing to do with the arrest of the thirteen rusticated students, describing the allegation as “false”.
His words: “No oooo, that’s false….TVC has no role to play in it. They (rusticated students) came in and they were accosted.
“Look! TVC has no role play. In a University system, once you’re rusticated, you are not expected to be on campus and we have our security presence monitoring everybody.
” They (rusticated students) came in with a bus from Tai Solarin University of Education, specifically, and we have our security men all around. Of course we don’t have right to act, but we contacted the Sabo division of the Nigeria Police, maybe the CSO was able to do that. But according to what I have, they contacted Sabo Police station and they were able to play their role.”
Adebule added that the students were rusticated for committing series of offences including examination malpractices, drug abuse, examination misconducts amongst other.
