The management of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Ondo State government have signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of Akodo/Ibeju-Lekki/Araromi/Ilaje coastal road.
When completed, the fifty-kilometer road project will link the State with Lagos, through the coast.
TVC’s Ayodeji Moradeyo reports that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is an interventionist agency, saddled with the responsibility of developing the oil producing communities of coastal region of Nigeria.
Over the years, the commission has executed different developmental projects in the region, with many abandoned before completion.
In its desire to bring rapid development to the oil producing communities, the NDDC is taking steps to partner with states in the region.
In this regard, the commission signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ondo state government for the construction of Akodo, Ibeju- Lekki, Araromi, Ilaje road.
When completed, the the fifty-kilometer road project will link the State with Lagos, through the coast.
After signing the agreement, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu said the road would serve as alternative route to the Lagos-Ore expressway.
Akeredolu who expressed optimism that the road would boost economy of the state, also placed some demands before the NDDC management.
Chairman of NDDC governing board, Victor Udoma Egba laments high rate of abandoned projects in the oil producing communities of the state.
The Chairman who gave statistics of projects abandoned in the area, said the MOU would strengthen the commission’s relationship with the State government.
The state Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi also commended the impact of such agreement on development in the state.
The multi billion naira road project will be jointly financed by the NDDC and the State government.
