The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) have condemned what they call an existential threat to Nigeria’s democracy by evil forces of retrogression and anarchy.
The group is reacting to an attack by armed men on the country home of its national spokesman Ikenga Imo-UgoChinyere, which they say is with the sole aim of assassinating him.
The coalition of United Political Party, CUPP say Pictorial and video evidences show the horrific extent of the damage and murderous escapades of the armed attackers who not only burnt down his entire house, but also set ablaze vehicles, killed his uncle and yet to be specified number of his supporters and innocent bystanders.
The political opposition group is pointing fingers at an appointee of the Imo State government whom they say openly threatened their spokesman because of his decision to contest for a seat in the House of representatives.
Former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki has also condemned the attack on the country home of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere.
A statement released from his media office on Sunday, Saraki termed the occurrence as regrettable and added that the attack is a poor omen with only a few weeks left until the general election.
Mr Saraki who described the attack as a sad commentary on the nation’s democracy, claimed that Ugochinyere was specifically targeted.
It was reported that unknown gunmen attacked the country home of Ugochinyere, killing three people and injuring others.
