The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad has reportedly resigned days after 14 Justices of the apex court called for his probe
Although reports indicate that the embattled CJN resigned on health grounds, there has been pressure on the Chief Justice recently to step aside and allow for a probe of allegations against him by 14 justices of the Supreme Court.
The justices claimed their welfare has been neglected by Justice Tanko and they also alleged that funds allocated to the judiciary were been mismanaged.
As at the time of filing this report, there is no statement from the national judicial council confirming his resignation, neither has the presidency confirmed or denied his resignation.
Meanwhile, the embattled Chief Justice is currently been represented by the solicitor general of the federation at the United nations international day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking held at the banquet hall of the presidential villa.
Reports say Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who is the next most senior Justice will later today be sworn-in as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
