The United Nations preaches that one policeman be attached to four hundred people if global peace must be attained, but the Nigeria police says it is far too understaffed.
At the moment it has commenced engagement of critical stakeholders in Kaduna state for community policing.
The force believes that would go a long way in achieving lasting peace in the state.
Tesem Akende reports that deputy Inspector of the police in charge of Nigeria’s northwest, Dikko Maigari Abbati at the Kaduna state command headquarters.
He was received by the state police commissioner, Agyole Abeh among other senior police personnel.
The police DIG immediately hit the ground running. He engaged stakeholders among them traditional rulers, and religious leaders.
DIG Maigari said dialogue is necessary if lasting peace is to return to Kaduna state.
Participants went into an interactive session, where the stakeholders called for more openness from security agencies but the DIG said the doors of the police remained open at all times.
He noted that the force cannot deliver on its mandate without them.
The state police commissioner, Agyole Abeh was commended for playing a strong role at stabilising the situation in Kaduna state.
On his part, Abeh noted that he was encouraged, and said the command under his watch would continue to deliver optimally.
