Emeka Atuloma scored the decisive goal as Rivers United beat Moroccan club FUS Rabat 1-0 on Wednesday to throw Group A of the CAF Confederation Cup wide open.
The midfielder netted from close range with 19 minutes remaining after the FUS defence failed to clear their lines.
The Nigerians then withstood a barrage of attacks late on with goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi required to make an extraordinary stop to keep his side in firm control.
The win takes United to 3rd in the group on 3 points and they will face KCCA FC of Uganda in a double header on matchdays 3 and 4.
