France says it is willing to help rebuild institutions destroyed by the war in Sudan. This followed a meeting between a delegation from the French Upper House on Sunday and the governor of North Darfur as well as the Speaker of the state’s Legislative Council.
Head of the delegation Louis Duvernois said France would support peace efforts in the five states of Darfur and contribute to the reconstruction and development efforts there.
The Sudanese army and its allied militia have been fighting a group of armed movements in Darfur since 2003, where more than 300,000 people have so far been killed and more than 2.5 million displaced.
