Former soccer stars Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho, Carlos Valderrama and others put on their boots again to help promote a fairer game on the sidelines of the FIFA Congress meeting in the Bahraini capital of Manama.
Former Spain international Michel Salgado said the purpose of the event was to root out racism in the sport, promoting women’s soccer and committing to a fairer, more transparent organisation.
FIFA has come under renewed criticism this week after the FIFA Council opted against renewing the mandate of its 2 leading ethics officials, Cornel Borbely and Hans-Joachim Eckert.
Both had handled the expulsion of a series of officials involved in corruption allegations.
