The Federal Executive Council has approved the National roadmap for ICT 2017 to 2020 in a bid to create more employment for the nation’s youth.
Council also approved the endorsement of three international treaties to protect the intellectual property of creative persons in the country.
The ICT Roadmap is one of the crucial planks the National Economic and Growth Plan with a target of creating through ICT, about 2. 5 million jobs between now and the year 2020
To achieve this, it also plans to ensure that by 2020, broadband penetration would have risen to thirty percent covering, all parts of Nigeria.
Harnessing the skills of intelligent young Nigerians is key to the success of the plan such that they can raise the contribution of ICT to the country’s GDP from 10 to 20 percent.
Council also endorsed at the meeting, the World Organisation Copyright treaty, the Beijing and Marakesh treaties which provides for protection of intellectual property of creative persons.
