A Community Health Physician, Tolulope Kotey has urged Nigerians to willingly donate blood as part of efforts to better position the health sector to respond to emergencies.
Speaking during TVC’s 10AM news bulletin on Wednesday, Kotey said it is imperative to ensure a continuous supply and availability of blood at blood banks in the country.
She also urged health authorities to sensitise Nigerians that blood donation has little or no effect on the general well-being of donors.
She emphasised that blood should be donated as often as possible instead of waiting for a disaster to strike before giving blood.
The World Blood Donor Day is held on the 14th of June every year to draw attention to the importance of donating blood.
The theme for this year’s day is : “Give Blood, Give Now, Give Often.”
