Governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP in the just concluded governorship election in Taraba state Sani Yahaya is alleging that the poll was manipulated in favor of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party.
Addressing journalists in Jalingo, Mr Yahaya says he is proceeding to court to reclaim his mandate as there are
overwhelming evidence of electoral malpractice in the March 18th election.
It was a keenly contested governorship election in Taraba state among candidates of the People’s Democratic party PDP, the All Progressive Congress, APC and the new Nigerian people’s party NNPP.
The returning officer of the election in the state Professor Muhammad Ahmed announced that the PDP candidate retired Col. Kefas Agbu met the legal requirements to be declared winner.
Mr Agbu scored 257,926 vote to defeat Professor Sani Yahaya of the NNPP who polled 202,277 votes.
The announcement did not go down well with the NNPP governorship candidate who express his dissatisfaction with the
results at a Press briefing in Jalingo.
The state governor Darius Ishaku, the APC governorship candidate Senator Emmanuel Bwacha and others congratulated Agbu for his victory in the polls.
Governor Ishaku appealed to all Tarabans to embrace peace and not start any rancour as everything done was transparent.
The battle for the next governor of Taraba state will mow shift from the ballot box to the courts.
