Some youths from Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area have threatened to block the Bayelsa end of the East-West Road if construction or repair work does not start, to avert further casualties on the road.
The Bayelsa youths spoke to TVC News correspondent Ovieteme George at Opokuma Junction where their lawmaker seized the opportunity to call for devolution of powers to enable state governments handle such key projects in their regions.
Youths of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area sometimes take to the Bayelsa axis of the East-West Road to help ease out traffic congestion caused by deep pot holes in the area.
Such interventions they say, have become necessary due to danger and rising casualty figures along the trans Niger Delta road.
The lawmaker representing Kolokuma / Opokuma Constituency One in the Bayelsa State House Of Assembly was also at the troubled spot and became a traffic warden before moving to the Zarama axis of the East-West Road to ascertain the level of decay of the Federal infrastructure.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps who later arrived the Opokuma Junction, apparently to perform their duty, where chased away by the youths.
