Traditional rulers of Illofa and Odo-Owa in Oke-Ero local government area of Kwara State, Oba Samuel Niyi Dada and Oba Joshua Adeyemi Adimula are to forfeit three months salaries to the state government and restricted to their respective domains within the period.
This was part of the state’s executive council’s resolutions after considering a white paper on the report of judicial commission of inquiry into the communal clash between the two communities.
Crisis broke out between Odo Owa and Ilofa communities both in Oke Ero local government area of Kwara state in April this year over who, out of the two communities, has the right to announce the commencement of the eating of the new yam in the main market used by the towns.
Briefing newsmen after council’s meeting, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Haruna Tambiri said the council also banned the monarchs from attending any official function during the period.
The state government also directed that the Iloffa-Odoowa common central market should henceforth be used only for commercial purposes.
The state’s ministry of justice is to commence prosecution of identified perpetrators of the violence during which lives were lost and properties destroyed.
