Four suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested in Benin City, Edo State, by the Nigeria police and have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.
The suspects, Shiko Romeo, Bobby Edigiu, Henry Nisike and Emmanuel Ayo were arrested recently by officers of the Nigeria Police on suspicion of being involved in internet fraud.
Upon handing the suspects over to the EFCC, operatives of the Commission commenced investigations including analysis of documents retrieved from the laptop computer recovered from them. According to the EFCC, the suspects were said to have opened up using fake identification on Facebook in their attempt to defraud unsuspecting victims especially European and American citizens.
According to EFCC, Romeo, who claims to be a student of National Open University, NOUN, confessed that he scammed the duo of K. Zamaripas and Susan various sums of money in a romantic relationship using the name John Culfer who lives in New Jersey, USA.
The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
