The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party North East Reconciliation Committee, Governor Darius Ishaku is optimistic the party will form the central government in 2019.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the zonal reconciliation committee meeting in Yola, Governor Ishaku maintained that the ongoing reconciliation would reposition the party to snatch Bauchi, Adamawa,Yobe and Borno states from the All progressives Congress.
Correspondent Owolabi Adenusi reports that Ishaku, who chaired the occasion explained that the purpose of the meeting was to settle disputes and seeming rancour in the party towards repositioning it for 2019.
He told PDP chieftains that the party has dusted up the Prof Jerry Gana committee report which abolished impunity in picking candidates for elective positions.
He explained that the former acting national chairman of PDP, Alhaji Ali Modu Sherif could not attend the stakeholders’ meeting because he was out of the country.
In his welcome remarks, Adamawa State Caretaker Committee, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali Imam said the immediate task of his committee is to rebuild the party and its structures in the state and win back Adamawa.
He said his committee would resist the temptation of allowing individuals or groups from hijacking any or all organs of the party.
PDP national vice chairman Northeast, Ambassador Emmanuel Njiwa, and other speakers also called on those sincerely willing to join the party to come, noting that the doors of PDP are open for all Nigerians.
Political watchers belief that if the Ishaku Committee in its reconciliation bid could woo back political bigwigs like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Governor of Bauchi, Adamu Muazu, the party may make big gains in the 2019 general election.
