Court proceedings involving two women accused of assassinating Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half-brother of the leader of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong Un, have reached the end of their first week in Malaysia.
Vietnamese national Doan Thi Huong and Indonesian Siti Aisyah stand accused of plotting with a group of four men to murder Kim Jong Nam in an attack which was carried out in Kuala Lumpur airport in February.
Prosecutors have yet to name the four men connected with the attack, but they are believed to be DPRK nationals who fled Malaysia right after the Feb 13 attack.
Prosecutors have stated that the case appears to involve the use of what one expert described as the most deadly nerve agent ever created – ‘VX’.
But the prosecution will find it much harder to prove they intended to kill him, especially when the four DPRK men who police consider to be the masterminds of the operation remain far beyond the reach of Malaysian justice.
