About sixty percent of patients admitted in the Ondo state specialist hospital this year have cases related to diabetes.
A consultant and endocrinologist, Dr Adenike Enikuomehin, gave the revelation at the celebration of this year’s world diabetes day in Akure.
Enikuomehin who noted that half of the people with diabetes are undiagnosed said that lifestyle modification is key to prevention and management of the disease.
She urged those with diabetes in the state to key into the national health insurance scheme (NHIS) in order to subsidise the cost incurred.
She also stressed the need for women to go for regular medical check up to know their status
She appealed to the state government to implement and strengthen policies for the prevention and control of diabetes.
